This project reflects Stene Alexopoulos’s architectural vision, which stands out through a meticulous, artisanal approach, integrating the creation of bespoke furniture. The projects balance the brutality of forms with the refinement of materials, exploring a dialogue between functionality and poetry.
The project inspired by Carlo Scarpa, located in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, just steps away from the famous Rue Montorgueil, the Rue Marie-Stuart hosts this 50m² apartment. The Art Deco building dates back to the 1930s. The agency wanted to highlight its year of creation by drawing inspiration from a prominent architect of that era, Carlo Scarpa.
The agency’s approach is centered around the enhancement of craftsmanship, using raw and natural materials, along with custom-made pieces created by their artisans. Each element is a prototype tailored to the apartment, such as the sculpted bathroom sink, the concrete table, and the marble bench。
The materials of the project : between brutality and refinement.Just like the building’s structure, the reinforced concrete table was made on-site: formwork, poured, and then inlaid with green marble. The green marble comes from Rajasthan. For added comfort and softness, the kitchen and bathroom countertops are made of polished concrete. The sink is sculpted on-site by their artisans. The hood, the legs of the sink, the inlaid tabletop, and the bench are made of marble, crafted on-site. The wood is walnut, and the flooring is solid oak.
