Ililsiho, located in central Jeju Island, is a private rental residence for visitors to Jeju Island. The project was designed by Seoul-based design Studio Fragment. Jeju Island is a tourist resort with unique natural scenery. Generally, tourists come to Jeju island to get away from the city and enjoy nature.
The project's owners wanted visitors to feel enough nature in Jeju island, so that the rest space was calm and tidy, so that they could relax. To this end, the design team tried to create a space that was empty enough between nature and habitation.
The exposed concrete is used to show the properties of the material itself, while decorative objects are excluded. Studio Fragment focuses on the fluidity and quality of space, with all buildings taking on long forms. The two buildings, the pavilion and the main building are arranged horizontally and connected by a tunnel. From the living room across the courtyard, looking across the pavilion, brings a sense of relaxation space; In the pavilion opposite, the living room is set horizontally so that people can see it at a glance.
The tunnel connecting the pavilion and the main building is obscured from the courtyard and the outside, playing an intermediate role between the pavilion and the main building. It is an independent space while having a connection that connects with the direction towards the two spaces. It was intended to keep the gaze of people who use the space inside, and hoped that it would be a space where people could fully enjoy a rest and relaxation in Ilsiho if they stay outside the building.c
