Adriana Menunie
I never felt totally comfortable with the fashion world but I developed a real love for textiles in many of it’s forms.
Multidisciplinary artist Adriana Meunie started out in fashion design, but she soon realized that sewing is more than just functional. In her work, Adriana Meunie reflects her fascination with the beauty of line and simplicity as well as rich textures, which blur the boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional images and are created using thread, fabric and textiles, using a variety of techniques and styles.
In her studio in the village of Felanitx, she takes advantage of her training in tapestry and therefore works not transformed wool but also alfa, raffia, pieces of leather and majorcan threads that she sews together to create murals on the loom. According to her, the techniques of tapestry refer to the ancestral origins of the weaving. It is ultimately their naive forms, their volumes and the most raw materials that move her. The shades are always very neutral and obtained without colouring in order to blend best in the decor.
Although Adriana’s work is reflective of rural Mallorca, she insists that contrast is what makes her pieces so strong in image. The designer's creative process is also focused on the durability of the pieces and their ability to embellish over time. Echoing her past, Adriana Meunie also founded Odeminui, a house that sees clothing as a material for all experiments. Finally, it is essential for Adriana that everyone can grasp through touch the different textures of her works that she readily describes as "textile paintings".
