Axel Vervoordt has designed an extraordinary manor house in Keralan, India. The designers came together to create this perfect family home in a beautiful landscape. Keralan, where the house is located, is known as the land of literature, lakes and latex because of its significant educational and literary achievements, beautiful backwaters, and extensive rubber plantations.

After discovering an ideal plot of land, a young family is eager to bring their favorite designers together to create a one-of-a-kind home. As a result, the house was designed by a team of architect Bijoy Jain, Studio Mumbai founder, landscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith, and interior designer Axel Vervoordt.

The owners, who are Kerala locals, didn't want a house tied to a particular era or style, they wanted the space to be "a response to the natural world". They lived in cities including Hong Kong, Mumbai and Dubai before moving here. In 2018, they wanted to live surrounded by nature and feel protected when air conditioning, glass, steel and unnatural materials couldn't overcome the state's worst flooding in 100 years.

Building your dream home can be a painful process that is slow and takes much longer than expected. The design team, consisting of a design studio, understood that the house had to match the dreams and aspirations of the family, both inside and out.
