Joe Fresh, the Canadian fashion clothing and accessories brand, has opened a flagship store in New York, a landmark and modernist masterpiece. Located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 43rd Street, the building is surrounded by 27-foot-high glass Windows that reveal the interior and direct the eye upward.
The interior faces a floating white terrazzo mezzanine and luminous ceilings, creating the impression of weightless architecture. These elements were created by Burdifilek in collaboration with modernist sculptor and furniture designer Harry Bertoia to create a 70-inch gold-plated screen and whimsical "cloud" decor suspended in mid-air.
Echoing Joe Fresh's fashion style, Burdifilek pays great attention to detail and proportion, using simple and noble materials to create shop accessories, but always with a contemporary touch. In order to preserve the historic character of the building, none of the shop fittings are drilled into the floor, walls or ceiling. Instead, free-floating, sculptural commercial signs celebrate the lightness of the main building.
According to Burdi, "Joe Fresh is a proud Canadian, reflecting that our designs are confident and understated. If you look closely, you can see subtle but complex nuances that create interest and differentiate the Joe Fresh aesthetic."
