Villa des Fleurs
“We are inspired by how the Europeans live; modest spaces, with lots of detail, surrounded by gardens.” — Chloe Tozer, Founder and Creative Director of CLO Studios.
Located in the coastal village of Peregian Beach on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, Chloe Tozer, CLO Studios Founder and Creative Director, and her partner Jack Clissold, owner/builder, have lovingly renovated a double story brick home from the seventies into Villa des Fleurs. Surrounded by lush gardens, Villa des Fleurs, aptly translating to ‘house of flowers’, blends French countryside and Italian influences to create a light-filled, creative haven.
Jack’s innate knowledge of building and craftsmanship alongside Chloe’s interior design background, made the perfect match. Utilising the original footprint, they adjusted the floor plan to encourage the outdoors into the home, while adding a master suite on the upper level. The extensive renovation has maximized the home’s north facing aspect, capitalising on the views of the rugged, mountainous hinterland, and one of the most iconic and desirable coastlines in Australia.
Each material was considered whether repurposed, reclaimed or made from materials that will age and enrich over time. On the ground floor, recycled terracotta tiles by Eco Outdoor are reminiscent of an old Tuscan villa, complimenting the peachy pink and creamy white rendered walls covering the exterior and interior of the home. The warmth of the rendered interior walls invites a playful use of colour, as seen in the laundry and throughout the home in the unique upholstery choices and the pair’s art collection.
“Villa des Fleurs is a creative haven for us, years of dreaming, planning and creating have led us here,” says Tozer. “Inspired by our love for the environment, history, culture and artisan skill, we are drawn to the old ways of creating.”
