Gagosian Gallery

The newest Manhattan gallery, Gagosian In New York, has been under the spotlight. Gagosian land is on an ample site with ambitious projects. The location has a refined and varied quality that seems to resonate with some of the biggest names in art.

There's an origin factor here -- the space once housed two galleries, the once legendary Mary Boone gallery and the still very famous Pace Gallery. But the attraction of the new residents is more likely to come from the complex renovation by Caplan Colaku, a New York firm that has worked with the Gagosian School of Architecture for years.

The gallery design is unique in that it is a completely invisible space. Invisibility is an interesting challenge in itself, especially when the space also needs to be able to display a variety of very different exhibitions in different months: large-scale abstract paintings, miniature portraits, monumental sculptures, ephemeral installations, films, performances, light works, group exhibitions, etc.
