Located at the foot of the city hill, Sanei is a Kappa restaurant founded in 1933. The restaurant is a 45-year-old wooden building that was built before the founder's son inherited it. When the project began, the restaurant was about to pass on to its third generation, the daughter of current owner Wakaokami. The kitchen, bathroom and main counter space were redesigned as the first stage of the renovation process.

The main focus of the first phase of the project is the back wall of the counter space where Wakaokami will receive her guests. Case-real's plan was to design a framework that inherited the exterior form into the interior and create a new "L" wall behind the counter. The color chosen for the concrete is a pale purple that resembles wisteria flowers, a color favored by the first Okami owners. Hammering the wall creates an uneven surface that gives depth while leaving shadows. The chunky countertops are solid ginkgo wood monolithic, which was originally located from the predecessor. Except for slight variations in size, the countertop remains the same and is reused. Taiwanese cypress wood originally used for the ceiling was also reused. 

Case-real, on the other hand, installed light fixtures and air-conditioning in the wicker finished ceiling section above the counter. This lowered volume allows Case-Real to portray the impression of solemnness and serenity, while the chair in an asymmetrical form of armrests, a carefully designed structure that maintains presence while adapting to the atmosphere. Instead of immediately completing the project with a new look, Case-Real aimed for a phased program that reflected the atmosphere and elements that had been handed down from generation to generation and gradually added new elements to its successors.
