The three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment is nestled in a prewar building from 1938 designed by renowned Italian-American architect Rosario Candela (1890-1953).
Married couple Colleen and John Cook. Colleen is the executive director at the Holmdel Theatre Company. A previous client of Crystal Sinclair Designs (who is a Broadway actress) recommended them to Colleen. Colleen had always wanted a city apartment. This is the couple’s pied-à-terre. Their main residence is in Rumson, New Jersey.
For this project, the designers referenced the iconic Studio 54, a Broadway theater and former nightclub where iconic moments of New York nightlife in the 1970s took place and where celebrities such as Jackie O, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Andy Warhol were seen.
The marble checkered fireplace cover was the first concept and provided great direction for the rest of the design team's designs. The biggest draw: a disco ball that sparkles throughout the room when it lights up.Crystal Sinclair laughs and says, “What will people in Central Park think at night when the disco ball starts moving.”
