Edwina Glenn

Edwina Glenn Home

Edwina Glenn designed the house she and her husband live in Melbourne, Australia. She often talks about warm, "light-filled" houses, but the design of this house is really an ode to light and landscape! Interior architect Edwina Glenn, who describes herself as "obsessive about lighting", and her husband, architect Edward Glenn, redesigned this house in south Melbourne in 2014. The couple have transformed the wasp - and asbestos-laden "practical" home into a dazzling home and now live with Jack, 7, Frances, 4, and Maggie, 2.
The design of the new house was designed by the creative couple, mainly with hand-drawn floor plans by Edwina Glenn. "We reviewed the floor plan several times to make sure we made the most of the facade and orientation of the street, but essentially went back to Ed's initial sketches," Edwina explained. Then I focus on the joinery and finishes inside."
It was easy for the two to work together, Edwina explains. "I quickly understood his intention to design the floor plan" (the benefits of working with a partner!). In the new design scheme, all the houses have been demolished except for the front wall, and the orientation of the house has been redesigned to capture the northern side and enjoy the walled garden. First and foremost, though, the new design is all about capturing light. Edwina explained: "We now wake up to see eastern light coming into our bedrooms, but this is more important than morning light." At every stage of the day, and at night, our passion for light adds a dramatic dimension to our daily lives."”
