One of the 365 days of the year will be someone's birthday. That day is a birthday anniversary for a person, and the other 364 days are a time of ordinary life and growth, but people still cherish these days. The name of Unbirthday Shop, a children's clothing boutique in Chua-ku, Hiroshima, might mean just that.

Design studio FATHOM wanted children to be able to spend their childhood free of any constraints, so the way the space is designed eliminates or hides the presence of vertical 'supports' and' barriers' by emphasising the straight lines and curves of horizontal surfaces, gently connecting. The studio wanted the space to be both brilliant and serene, making every day feel like an anniversary.

The entire space is arranged to eliminate as much as possible the presence of vertical pillars, horizontal lines created by the roof, natural deflection curves created by gravity. These are created in the image of a child's free imagination and are expected to grow freely and spontaneously. The existing facade was stripped of its bare columns and beams, replaced with transparent glass, and then plastered again to create a highly transparent facade that made it invisible.

The difference between a child and an adult is the ability to grow. In this free and open space with horizontal lines and curves, supported and protected by detached columns and walls, the studio hopes that children here can feel happy in daily growth, freely and freely choose and enjoy their clothes, adding variety and color to their ordinary but beautiful daily life.
