Design studio Hoffice has created a small basement shop for Soui in Seoul, South Korea, where natural light and air are blocked. The plan has been divided into walls according to the ground grid, inducing functional solutions and spatial experiences.

In this space, the walls surrounding the central space divide each area flexibly, creating a private shopping experience within the walls, while outside the walls create a pure sense of space visually through the products on display. In addition, each wall is designed to guide the flow of people, giving visitors an original experience, as if they were exploring a small cave.

To overcome the site's characteristics, Hoffice created a natural light-like environment by installing high-intensity lighting above the ceiling surface, which minimizes the amount of light exposed to the ceiling surface while inducing the illusion that the roof is open. The simplicity of the ceiling design compensates for the low ceiling height, and the soft light centered on indirect lighting creates a natural spatial atmosphere.

The mirrors and shelves in the central space are inspired by byung-poong, a traditional Korean folding screen, and the eaves of han-ok, a traditional building. The materials throughout the space are thought to have aged over time." Timeliness "is the most important factor in the overall plan, expressed through the linear flow composition, the rhythmic volume and the materials that constitute the space.

The material that makes up the space is Pocheon-seok, a series of granite from the city of Pocheon, which is close to South Korea's largest stone mine and is processed in a traditional, embellished way. The surface of the stone, due to the omission of the luminescent body, only the stone particles are shimmering, creating a sharp contrast with the smooth white surface, creating an ambient atmosphere.
