The aesthetic clues of British designer John Pawson's works are quite consistent, but the factors that affect the design process are usually eclectic, and even the most unlikely themes can be used as inspiration for reference. John Pawson's home, once a dilapidated 17th-century farmhouse, stables, barn and pigsty with giant hogweed, has been redesigned with thoughtful material inserts and careful planning for spatial flow.

The connection between the farmhouse and barn creates a span of 50 metres, thus installing kitchens at either end that can be used for different purposes at different times of the year and on different occasions. In the farmhouse there is a small traditional kitchen with a cozy winter pantry. There is a larger, more open kitchen in the converted barn for large groups of family and friends, especially in the summer, while a third kitchen is in the guest house.

John Pawson is often called a minimalist, which can be misleading. His minimalist aesthetic is infused with the warmth of subtle material tones, a carefully calibrated sense of space and light to ensure beauty is everywhere.

When he sees a beautiful stone and wood, he thinks that they are essentially the same.
