MORQ Architecture designed a traditional summer house, Villa RA, in Calabria. Situated on a ridge more than 300 meters above sea level, this 400-square-meter building has a visual and tactile continuity between the landscape and the building. The house also overlooks the sea in the south and the mountains in the west.
Calabria is located on the southernmost tip of the Italian mainland, bordered by mountains that slope toward the sea. In its rural landscape, the modern and unique villa is envisioned by the client as a place to rest and reconnect, from which to enjoy the benefits of their land, in harmony with nature and local traditions.
MORQ Architecture's goal was to make the house an ingrained part of the landscape, rather than a separate element. Instead of taking a literal approach to imitating the natural environment, the project borrows from the traditional architectural and land tones of Italian villas.
