Park Slope Duplex is a minimalist apartment located in Brooklyn, New York, designed by Margaux Lafond, and styled by Mariana Marcki-Matos. The redesign, while extensive, retained the original layout, which was deemed efficient and practical. A significant modification in the project was the creation of a den, a response to the irregular L-shaped living room.
This new space serves as an office and reading area, distinguished by its deep red walls that lend a sense of intimacy and character. In aiming to infuse a European flair into the apartment, the design team meticulously selected a mix of vintage furniture from France, Italy, and Northern Europe. This collection was thoughtfully paired with both new and custom-designed pieces, achieving a harmonious balance. The client’s preference for simplicity and minimalism, combined with a need for warmth, guided the material and color choices. Natural materials and soft tones are prominent throughout the apartment.
Notably, the master bathroom features tadelakt-finished walls, the bedroom closets are accented with woven raffia doors, and the living room is enhanced with custom wall sconces, the work of a French ceramist based in Lisbon. These elements come together to create a living space that is both understated and inviting.
