The 420 m² house was designed for a young family. Its main southern exposure allows for plenty of natural light and offers a beautiful view of the historic skyline of Kraków.
The ground floor contains the main daytime functions, including the living room, kitchen with pantry, dining area, and a recreation room. The upper floor features the sleeping area with a large master suite as well as additional children’s and guest rooms. The layout was carefully planned to provide comfort and an open space, which was a priority for the clients.
The architecture of the house is defined by large, open surfaces that initially appeared quite raw. The architect and his team introduced several design interventions to create a warmer and more functional interior.
Spatial division was achieved through varied planes and by lowering the level of the lounge area. A coffered ceiling above the living room, wooden built-ins, and elements made of black steel and glass with different levels of translucency were also used. These solutions helped to create more defined zones within the home.
Natural materials such as clay plaster, wood, and stone were used as the foundation of the design, giving the interior its character and warmth. The space serves as a strong backdrop for artworks, including paintings by Adam Bakalarz and Grzegorz Worpus and sculptures by Paweł Jach, which integrate harmoniously with the interiors. The furniture and decorative elements complete and define the project’s character through their contrasting forms. It is also worth noting that the furniture for this project was made by a small local carpentry workshop.
