The young ceramists From "From Mud" saw a need for the therapeutic and magical art of clay sculpture in the heart of Kuwait city; This is where the space From Mud Design Studio came From. Located on the ground floor of a modernist building built in 1967 in Kuwait City's textile market, the Zen workspace draws inspiration from the beautiful craftsmanship of clay and its simple textures. Rawan Muqaddas' holistic approach to design is conveyed through clean lines and soothing tones, reflecting the binding theory behind the studio's own ethos.

The creation of From Mud begins with observing the actions that take place when clay is used to create; From the movement of the potter himself to the flow of the clay itself. One of the most attractive features is the light distribution, which mimics the building's concrete facade and casts simple shadows on the space to protect privacy through recessed glass. As a continuation of the facade itself, the combination of steel and maple on the surrounding shelves creates a calm and functional environment that reinforces the mission of the young potter to make clay art accessible to everyone.

The Brief - From Mud is a design studio based on clay. The aim is to provide a structural space for exploration, research and creation, in which people of all skill levels can create a finished piece to take home. The design requirements included storage and shelving, kiln rooms, semi-private offices and lounge areas suitable for the potter's daily work.

In an urban sense, the building, called From Mud, was once the city's largest shopping mall. It defines a new modern urban environment as an overlay market. Today, we see retail stores still on the street, however, the upper floors have fallen into disrepair. Spaces like From Mud are changing the fabric of the city, bringing in youthful energy and bringing people to neglected Spaces. The building's facade is protected from the strong Kuwaiti sun by concrete slabs.
