GRADE Interior Design and Decoration worked with SAOTA Architecture studio to complete the Bay House residential project. The Bay House is an 11,500 SF modern Hamptons beach house located on a bluff overlooking Noyack Bay with dramatic 180-degree views. The home and site were designed to evoke the relaxed comfort, atmosphere and feeling of a retreat getaway, inspired by a blend of Southeast Asia Modern and Mid-Century California architectural influences. Commonalities were found between these architectural styles and were developed into a holistic design and vision affecting architecture and interiors.
A spacious area of outdoor living space was created through a variety of hard landscaping, swimming pool, sun-shaded roof and wide pergola to extend the resort-like experience and extend the project to the perimeter of the home. The house is organized around this social space, both extending it and providing a private retreat. The street-facing facade uses an architectural language of horizontal lines and materials, continuing inside with custom oak and bronze screens, as well as soft textured natural stone in neutral tones. These create aesthetic continuity and lay the foundation for custom and curated decorative elements.
The public and private areas are arranged around a long horizontal axis, providing stunning moments from different locations in the home and forming an open, airy relationship with the bay landscape. The kitchen is the heart of the house and opens up to an outdoor dining area as the pool seamlessly blends into the bay. The master bedroom suite is set away from the main house, allowing panoramic views and a wraparound roof terrace and garden.
