Sanya Sharma
I am creating this atmosphere to rouse an ephemeral perception, to be lost yet present and most of all to encourage introspective contemplation.
Sanya Sharma is a Textile artist and designer. Sanya received her B.Des from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India in 2015 and has currently graduated with a masters (MFA) in Textiles from Parsons School of Design, New York. She expresses her dreams, beliefs and realities through traditional weaving techniques. Her work incorporates natural materials, slow and tedious processes, and subtle details. She uses these to create spatial experiences and objects by weaving surfaces beyond the two-dimensional confines of conventional textiles.
Sanya Sharma encourages the viewer to engage with her pieces in an introspective dialogue through layers of perception. By studying intersectionality across past, present, and future Sanya Sharma weave flat woven pieces made of natural fibers that transform into diaphanous spatial structures and offer a disconnect from immediate chaotic surroundings to allow for a breath of stillness.
The flow of geometrical forms and densities across layers demonstrate the narrative of a moment: an infinite flux of emotion from past, present and future intersecting in the mind at a given time as you feel it flow when you close your eyes. Sanya Sharma spatial structures are woven with natural yarns fine enough to disappear in the blink of an eye yet strong enough to form connections across decades.
