Maguro Sushi’s latest location at One Bangkok marks an evolution for the well-established premium sushi brand. Known for its high-quality ingredients and meticulous preparation, Maguro sought to refine its aesthetic to align with its culinary values while embracing a refreshed design language. The interior concept centers around three core principles: understated luxury, culinary theater, and artisan materiality. These ideas are woven into every detail, creating a cohesive space that enhances the dining experience.

At the heart of the restaurant is a feature wall that anchors the design. This intricately crafted installation showcases inlaid wood with motifs inspired by traditional Japanese art, reminiscent of scenes from ancient scroll paintings. The design serves as both a visual and conceptual focal point, connecting the interior to Japan’s rich cultural heritage while adding depth and character to the space.

The sushi counter takes on a central role, embodying the idea of culinary theater. It draws attention to the craftsmanship behind the preparation of each dish, highlighting the chefs’ skill and reinforcing the transparency and authenticity that are core to the Maguro brand.

The neutral color palette was chosen to reflect Maguro’s ethos, allowing the materials and finishes to take prominence. Artisan ceramic tiles, textured wall paints, and a range of natural wood surfaces form the foundation of the design, creating a space that feels warm and grounded.

The tactile quality of these materials is further emphasized by carefully planned warm lighting, which highlights textures and creates an inviting atmosphere.

The site presented unique challenges due to its irregular shape, with a central column and building services core that required thoughtful planning. The layout was designed to optimize operational efficiency and create a harmonious flow throughout the space.
