Studio MK27 recreates another living work in the simple form of their project, Flat 12, an apartment in Sao Paulo, Brazil, covered with basalt floors and wooden ceilings and walls. Generous and simple style and exploration of interior space hardcover materials are the direction of this Studio MK27 Flat 12 project.

The material seems to have a life of its own, "a living organism", as Lina Bo Bardi, a Brazilian master of modern architecture, puts it. Perforations or textures in wooden panels, when exposed to the sun, create an incredible and poetic effect on the gable.

Flat 12 was designed by Studio MK27 for a family with three children who love to entertain. The client's previous house decor was very different from Studio MK27 , so the challenge was to work with them to modify the code for the decor. In the end studio chose natural materials to bring comfort to the space.

The interior of Flat 12 is divided into two areas. The social areas include the living room, dining room and balcony, while the bedrooms are located in private areas. Different materials and finishes are used to differentiate the space. Basalt covers the floor of the main living area. Freijo boards cover the entire social area, hiding doors to private areas, bathrooms and TV rooms. A window extends to one side of the room, bringing light into the dark and changing Spaces. The combination of plain materials and natural light creates a comfortable balance in the space.

Studio MK27 also adds hidden elements to the bedroom. In the children's bedroom, rectangular and house-shaped paper-cuts are integrated into the walls and painted pink to create a niche for the bed and a cozy alcove. In the master, the headboard doubles as a shelf across the wall behind the bed.

Flat 12 is a warm and simple haven, which brings perfect harmony to a family of five. What is evident in the Studio MK27 project is the simplicity of the architectural details and the relationship between inside and outside. Through sustainability and weather resistance, the use of pure volume and traditional cultural elements, while they prefer to use wood, concrete, stone and other raw materials. Almost all of the Studio MK27 projects have echoes of modern Brazilian architecture.
