Unlike the coastal villages in Jeju that developed around the seaside, Seonheul-ri is known as a representative ecological village with its dense Gotjawal forests and camellia groves. Leveraging these resources, the village has established itself as a hub for ecotourism and alternative education. The property owner, who set roots in this village, aimed to create a stay that shares their family’s interest in eco-friendly and sustainable living with guests.

To balance the privacy between the guest stay and the family residence while maintaining a unified space, a vegetable garden was placed at the center of the two programs. By making the garden the heart of the living space, guests can directly and indirectly experience it, allowing them to feel the family’s philosophy of life.

Expanding on this idea of sustainable living, we designed the space with the concept of a "growing house" that can gradually expand over time. The vegetable garden at the center, along with the surrounding pathways and corridors, forms the unchanging core space. Around it, the stay and residence are arranged, with future additions like workshops, storage, and additional stays envisioned to grow gradually. Due to budget constraints, parts of the corridors and pathways were omitted, but the design team believes the family will complete these someday.

The stay for guests consists of three main areas. The living room on the second floor, which will become an icon of Yeo-Yeo, is surrounded by cedar trees at eye level, evoking the feeling of a treehouse. Below it is a bedroom intentionally embedded in the ground. This bedroom offers a space to focus and contemplate coexistence with nature, providing views of various plants not commonly seen at eye level. The annex adjacent to the yard is designed to be a cozy and natural wooden house, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere.
