Carl Gerges Architects

One of the most gratifying parts of my work is leaving a positive impact on people’s lives, on an emotional and visual level. For me, every project is a unique love story, an adventure that can take you on various paths.

Carl Gerges is a musician and architect from Lebanon in the Middle East. He was born in December 1987 in Beirut, Lebanon. Carl Gerges learned to play the drums and piano at a very young age. He was born with a creative fortitude and believes that miracles can be created in any medium. Reinvent yourself with each project in an architectural career. Music and architecture are the epitome of Carl's daily life. He found true harmony in music creation, freedom to express himself in melody creation, and created brilliance in design.

In 2008,Carl Gerges was studying architecture at the American University of Beirut. During his university years, Carl not only gained his BFA from the American University of Beirut but also formed his internationally recognized Indie Rock band – Mashrou Leila – translates to “one night’s project”. After a decade of architectural adventures, he officially launched Carl Gerges Architects in March 2020.

Carl Gerges Architects adopts a purely human scale manner of work, whereby each project aims to consider and preserve its relative social, environmental and historical aspects. An advocate of authentic, honest, and contextual designs, reserving a deep respect for sustaining the natural resources within the space at hand, the studio avails itself these earthly fabrics. Alongside, it handles heritage with intimate sensibility, preserving the past world that grandly inhabits each project’s site and air.

The conservatory's design incorporates floral motifs "inferred from rigorous research and analysis of traditional Lebanese decor", while the arched basement was transformed into a spa with earthy aesthetics.

Eroded over thousands of years, a Mosaic of grey and yellow limestone surrounds the space. Solid retaining walls combine with natural rock boulders to create a quaint yet remote facade.
    • Villa Chams

The house has been carefully designed in all its elements to release the many sensory layers of nature, radiating a sense of harmony and tranquility, a solemn rest.
