Bosco Sodi

Bosco Sodi is known for his richly textured, vividly colored large-scale paintings. Sodi has discovered an emotive power within the essential crudeness of the materials that he uses to execute his paintings. Focusing on material exploration, the creative gesture, and the spiritual connection between the artist and his work, Sodi seeks to transcend conceptual barriers.

Sodi leaves many of his paintings untitled, with the intention of removing any predisposition or connection beyond the work's immediate existence. The work itself becomes a memory and a relic symbolic of the artist’s conversation with the raw material that brought the painting into creation. Sodi's influences range from l'art informel, looking to artists such as Antoni Tapies and Jean Dubuffet, to master colorists such as Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, and the bright hues of his native heritage.

Yinjispace:How do you interpret the statement that your creation is a process of "controlled chaos"?

Bosco Sodi:Well, I'm very close to the Wabi Sabi , meaning that the accident , the non control , the paint of time and working with organic materials , makes things unique and non repeatable .
Controlled chaos for means that I put the elements for the process but I can't decide the outcome .

Yinjispace:Many of your works remain unnamed. What is the reason behind this?

Bosco Sodi:I don't like to give a hint to the viewer on how to read the work, the approach should be with non preconceive idea, very pure and instinct .

Yinjispace:How has the cultural tradition of Mexico influenced your work?

Bosco Sodi:Not in a conscious way , but Mexico is a country with very strong culture and history and I'm sure that this in a way is reflected in my work.

Yinjispace:How did the initial idea for "Casa Wabi" come about, and what does it signify for you?

Bosco Sodi:It came because when I begin to do well in my carear ,I feel the responsibility of giving back , first to my country and my colleagues the artist..Believe me I know how difficult is the begining as an artist. For me casa wabi is my most important work up to now .

Yinjispace:Contact with nature has allowed you to find a method for tranquility. How do you convey this calming force through your works?

Bosco Sodi:The prices of my work is very natural and organic , that is why it has so much resemblance to nature, I love when I can create that felling in the viewer …
