CO-LAB is an architecture studio based in Tulum, Mexico and Los Angeles founded by Joshua Beck and Joana Gomes in 2010. They believe that design is a process, not the product of "genius sketches". They see each project as a unique expression of the client's needs, project and site potential. They provide intelligent, well-designed solutions that enrich people's relationship with nature and the built environment.

Joshua Beck received his Master's degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley in 2004 and his Bachelor's degree in environmental design from the University of California, Boulder in 1996. Joshua Beck has 14 years of experience in the field of architecture and architectural composition. He was also a trained builder of wooden boats and a skilled craftsman. Joana Gomes graduated in architecture from the University of Porto (Faop) in 2005 and joined rotterdam-based architecture firm MVRDV as a designer in 2006. Her professional experience includes architectural design, master planning, competitions, exhibitions and publications.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the Yucatan Peninsula, the studio encourages a greater connection with the natural world through design. Embracing the principles of sustainability, each project carefully weaves an architectural program with the beauty of each site, creating a unique background design. Local natural materials and handmade finishes allow the project to be built around a view of nature, soft breezes, light and shadow, creating new combinations and relationships. Co-lab works directly with artisans to create a sustainable environment that is in harmony with its surroundings.
