Elicyon's core design team is drawn from one of the UK's most prestigious design houses Candy&Candy, which leverages the elegant, luxurious and sophisticated London aesthetic to its fullest. Elicyon provides residential interior design, interior architecture, project management and furniture design services to both private and developers.

Yinji:Chelsea Barracks, we all know one of the top real estates in the UK. Can you tell us about its design concept?

Elicyon:London’s most anticipated development, Chelsea Barracks has been a very exciting location to work on, and completing several of the first furnished residences on the 12.8-acre historic site, Artists Residence being one of these apartments, has been a truly gratifying and fulfilling experience for the Elicyon team.We worked on designing the spaces so that they not only resonate with the tastes of the clientele, demonstrating a distinct level of quality and detail, but also speak to the heritage of the site and history of Chelsea- for instance, honouring the military heritage of the grounds, which overlooks the Royal Hospital Chelsea, through subtle details, woven into the overall design scheme.Looking into the history of the site, and the local area was a journey of discovery and one of the highlights of the design process. In the final design, our experimentation with colour and the way in which we blended very sleek contemporary aesthetics with vintage pieces to create a rich interior with interesting textures makes for a wonderfully unique outcome.

Yinji:What is your design inspiration source?

Elicyon:For Elicyon, the story is key to the experience of the final design, the ‘why and how’ playing a distinct role in the present. Our inspiration created a narrative, and our material and tonal explorations were initially based around this.

Yinji:How long did it take you to complete the design plan for this project?

Elicyon:It took us a few months, from March – June 2019. The narrative of ‘The Artist’s Studio’ at Chelsea Barracks is influenced by the many creative districts in Chelsea, historically offering a rare degree of authenticity. The growth of the organic districts such as the Artists Enclave on Cheyne Walk, evolved via the traditional route of low-cost rents and historic industrial buildings re-colonised by the creative community.

Yinji:In this project, which is the most exciting design?

Elicyon:Our design response was to create a palette of eclectic furnishings, with tactile materials and indoor greenery to create spaces that are fresh and serene, speckled with quirky accessories and painterly wall features. Interspersed with art pieces influenced by periods ranging from Cubism and Surrealism, to 20th century ceramics from around the world, the apartment speaks to its story with a fluid response and every room has elements that draw the eye.
