At Hotel August, the former convent has been artfully repurposed into a contemporary retreat, seamlessly blending historical charm with modern luxury. Under the expert guidance of Vincent Van Duyse, the architectural integrity of the building has been meticulously preserved, while also receiving thoughtful updates to ensure a comfortable stay for guests.44 rooms, even in the same room type, each has a different structure. Each room became a unique vignette, whispered stories of its own, a testament to the building's rich past and the individuality it now exuded. We were invited to indulge in a unique dining experience within the cloistered corridors, where the echoes of history resonate through the red brick walls.
Exploring the hotel's interior, amidst the embrace of grey-green timber panels and delicate white moldings, we found history intertwines with modernity. Every detail, from the meticulously restored decorative profiles to the hand-painted tiles reminiscent of a bygone era, revived the classical feel for a new public. Yet, amid these echoes of the past, bursts of contemporary flair emerged, carefully woven in through the selective introduction of black accents. These black elements reminded us of the black awnings hovering above August’s main entrance — our first encounter.

We also encountered meeting rooms named after the nuns who once resided within these walls. Additionally, a shop within the hotel offers guests the opportunity to take home a piece of Hotel August, with a selection of products used throughout the property available for purchase.
Venturing further, we discovered tranquil courtyards nestled within the hotel's walls. The rain persisted, creating a soothing ambiance as droplets cascaded gently onto the pebbles and sand. However, envisioning the scene in warmer seasons, one could anticipate the courtyard blossoming with vibrant foliage and lively gatherings. The inviting pavilion and seating areas hinted at leisurely afternoons spent basking in the sunshine, enjoying the cozy ambiance of Hotel August's courtyard.
As our visit came to a close, we were drawn to a pair of angelic statues within the hotel, serving as a reminder of the building's original purpose and the enduring legacy it continues to embody. With its blend of past and present, Hotel August invites guests to embark on a journey of discovery, where history meets modernity in perfect harmony.
