The cultural and residential complex Kanaal, designed by Flemish art dealer and interior designer Axel Vervoordt, is located in a converted malt brewery in Wijnegem, a town a few miles east of Antwerp. Five separate buildings were designed by a local architecture firm, creating a total of 98 apartments.
One of the largest properties here is a 2,900-square-foot duplex that sits atop the Pakhuizen section of the development with canal views.
The Covetable, a new, modernist duplex apartment in the Kanaal cultural and residential complex, was designed by Axel Vervoordt. The two-storey apartment is in Vervoordt's signature style, incorporating many designs, antiques and artwork into the dialogue between old and new.
In the living room, a large sofa covered with aubergine Belgian linen covers and a SLATE coffee table echo Chandigarh rattan chairs designed in the 1950s and sculptures by Greek artists from 1968.
