One Casson Square

Interiors Houses London 2022-06-15

Charu Gandhi’s design studio Elicyon has completed a new show apartment for Qatari Diar and Canary Wharf Group at their £1.3bn Southbank Place scheme. The first in-situ show unit at One Casson Square, one of the riverside development’s tallest buildings, sits on the 31st floor and has wraparound floor-to-ceiling windows taking in some epic views of London’s landmarks.

Elicyon’s design approach for the apartment is firmly anchored in its very special South Bank and Thames-side location and in the sites rich heritage. They wanted to subtly reference the vibrancy, eclecticism and culture of the area and its history as the home of woolen cloth manufacturing, potting and weaving. This inspired they considered selection of textured artworks and bespoke furniture; they choice of dressings and fabrics featuring contemporary weaving techniques and the warm, neutral palette used throughout.

Pitched at £4.25m, the three-bed has been designed with the South Bank’s industrial heritage in mind; highlights include a handmade geometric woven cord piece by UK artist Jo Elbourne – a nod to the weaving industry which once thrived on this stretch of the Thames – with some earthy-coloured artisanal sculptures and agate rocks providing the finishing touches.

The living room has also been kitted out with a pair of curved cream sofas and a hand-knotted, Himalayan wool and bamboo silk rug; other pieces include a marble and oak console table by a Portuguese maker, and bespoke blonde timber dining table. The colour palette involves burnt oranges and ochres, gold and dark teal, combined with natural textures, velvet and leather.
