Interior architect Felix Millory reinvented this 110-square-metre Haussmann-style apartment in the heart of the French capital’s second arrondissement with brio,to be both elegant and warm.
For all the projects Millory designs, he strives to tell a story to be discovered through refined and warm spaces that are always imagined around the persons who live in or use them — and this apartment was no exception. The interior architect’s passion for raw materials — including wood, concrete and marble — and his organic sensibility allow him to give life to balanced and peaceful homes.
Nestled on the fifth floor of a Haussmann building that dates back to 1870, this 110-square-metre apartment has a balcony — considered a luxury for many Parisians. Initially, the interior spaces were organised in a totally different way: the kitchen occupied the back of the apartment; the private areas were very small and the master bedroom lacked a bathroom, faced the street and was next to the living room. No moulding was original and there was no parquet. Millory decided not to keep any of the windows nor the flooring, and he changed the whole layout. Millory opened the spaces to bathe them in natural light; he created a more fluid living area; and he included only two bedrooms, each one with its private bathroom, in the night spaces.
