Glenn Sestig has designed Coccodrillo's flagship store in Antwerp, occupying the ground and ground floor of a beautiful townhouse in Antwerp. The original interior was badly damaged, so it had to be redesigned. This is all done with ease, thanks to richly textured concrete and clever, flexible interiors.
Concrete wraps everything, from walls to columns and ceilings, while all furniture except the cash register is custom made and self-contained to allow for different configurations.
Strip lighting helps define the surfaces, while thick concrete panels in the ceiling hide all technical equipment and ensure an overall minimalist feel. This makes the space feel dramatic and huge, but also clean and functional.
A wide travertine staircase connects two levels with bronze metal balustrades. Bronze screens help to divide the needed areas. A mirror opposite the entrance is strategically placed to lead the view to the ground floor, giving a sense of proportion.
