Area where the home is located A highly requested and family-oriented neighborhood called Mar Vista just above Venice, California and a 10-minute drive from the ocean. We use a palette of warm and earthy tones to reflects Californian landscape, hues of yellow to reflect the sun and black accents for its character and timeless impact. Wood, concrete, metal and glass are the materials that were used the most for the construction of the house to be in harmony with contemporary style.
The challenge of designing an atmosphere that was opposite from what we are usually asked to create. The previous project we have completed was all about opulence and maximalism with the proportions and dimensions that goes with versus this home from where we have been ask to design a serene yet warm atmosphere made of organic textures and earthy tones and within a different scale. It took over 14 months for the house to be completed.
Within the intention of warming the atmosphere and balance with the clean lines of contemporary, we decided to use roman clay on the walls, blackened brass fixtures and handcrafted Moroccan zellige. We loved using these materials for their authenticity and timeless charm. We integrated leather and high end fabrics as we wanted the overall decor to be refined, sourced colorful Kilim rugs and introduced exotic species of plants as we wanted to combine the contemporary warm atmosphere we created with a mélange of design styles, textures and provenance.
The main level integrate 1 bedroom and its bathroom, which was converted into a playroom, the powder room, the entry way that leads to the great room (living room, dining area, kitchen and pantry on a open floor plan). Large sliding doors has been designed all across the great room and leads to the backyard and its deck from where we created a cosy fireplace area to hang out under a beautiful mature three. Upstairs are both children bedrooms and bathrooms. We converted another bedroom to be her office, then the master bedroom and its bathroom.
