The projects consists in the renovation of the old mountain hut “Curò”. The new building represents the first European example of a “hostel at high altitude”.
The project involved the emptying of the existing wall structure and the removal of all the added plaster to show the stones of the walls and highlight the history of the building.

The new building integrates the accommodations offer of the Barbellino Lake basin to broaden the knowledge of the place, its surroundings, the natural, hydrogeological, and cultural elements that characterize it.The project involved the redistribution of the internal rooms used for overnight stays and the construction of some new areas, mainly with the recovery of the existing attic, introducing new wooden structures.

Pre-existing wall structure wa suniformed with a natural lime glaze. A new structure corten steel was added. The contrast between the iron oxide and the blackish gray stone is the same visible in the presence of oxide in the lithic stratifications of the place which until a few decades ago was in fact rich in iron mines. The severity of the external surfaces is counterpointed by the warm atmosphere of the interiors made entirely of solid red oak slats treated with oil.
