Edition Sanya is the first edition of Ian Schrager's joint venture with Marriott International in China. The building was designed by SCDA, the landscape was created by Madison Cox, and the interior design was attended by Ian Schrager / CAP Atelier.
Opened in May 2016, Edition Sanya is committed to creating a unique hotel experience that opens a new chapter in luxury experience for travellers. Situated on the tropical coastline of Haitang Bay on Hainan Island, the hotel covers an area of 50 acres surrounded by lush tropical greenery. From the hotel's 20,000-square-meter “private sea”, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the South China Sea.
SCDA's design explores the different ways of connecting the ocean to architecture, and is compatible with different experiences and styles: traditional elements blend contemporary culture, minimalist style conveys refined taste, and modern design emphasizes natural beauty. Adhering to the brand's personalized customization concept, it is inspired by local customs and customs, respecting and preserving the splendid cultural heritage of Hainan Island, while injecting ultra-modern elements into the overall space.
The classical lotus pond and bamboo forest in the reception area bring the elegant and quiet atmosphere, and the art galleries displaying the works of modern Chinese masters are in harmony with each other, vividly interpreting the unified design style of the brand. As the guest enters the hotel, a teak pavilion greets the pavilion with a stunning view of the private ocean.
Edition Sanya is more than just a hotel, it also has privately owned villas, meeting facilities, restaurants, swimming pools and other leisure facilities. The hotel has 512 spacious guest rooms, including 46 suites and 17 private villas. Each beautiful villa on the terraced hillside has a private pool and outdoor space. The horseshoe-shaped hotel layout features a new luxury that allows all guests to enjoy the stunning sea views. The standard rooms are perfect for families, and the modern and individually designed loft suites are ideal for couples.
The villas are dominated by logs and marbles, and the warm and soft interiors create a simple and refined atmosphere. The light oak finishes and translucent fabrics make you feel like you are on a comfortable beach. The spacious room windows are clear and the stone floors are brightly coloured. There is also a separate bathtub in the main room, featuring distinctive features and unique style. The overall layout of the interior is exquisite, allowing guests to enjoy the natural scenery around them.
The landscape of the Edition is inspired by the Summer Palace. Hainan Island is rich in flora and fauna. Edison carefully selected 900 trees from the island to make the hotel a tropical oasis paradise, creating a beautiful and pleasant ecological holiday atmosphere.
