New hotel in a skyscraper in East London, designed by Danish designers from Space Copenhagen. It occupies seven lower floors in a 42-story skyscraper designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), near Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The hotel's interiors, designed by designers from the Danish studio Space Copenhagen, are dominated by different shades of gray that blend perfectly with the minimalist architecture of the building, and textured details add coziness and charm.
When designing The Stratford, Danish designers Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgard Rützu, calling their style “poetic modernism,” relied on the aesthetics of the legendary New York mid-20th-century skyscraper hotels such as Chelsea and Carlyle. They diversified their restrained colors in gray, white and black tones with an abundance of textures: textured plaster, brushed and polished metal, natural stone and wood.
A spacious three-color hall is decorated with a 9 m high glass and concrete fireplace, bar and reception desks, effectively trimmed with patterned gray marble, and an elegant installation in the form of soaring pieces of paper. Its chaotic appearance brings dynamics to the austere and rational interior of the hall.
The club space on the mezzanine is decorated in warm beige, brown and gray colors and furnished with soft low chairs and sofas. The texture of the grand fireplace echoes the velvet surfaces of sofas and carpets. The guest rooms are combined with austere shades of gray with beige, sand and green tones. Furniture, lamps and mirrors are rounded, and the decoration of the furniture with matt brass gives elegance and creates a nostalgic atmosphere. The bathrooms are veined in white marble and complemented with minimalist accessories
