Studio 11:11 collaborated closely with their client to design a refined Melbourne home that evokes the relaxed atmosphere of a Mediterranean resort. The design celebrates natural materials, embodying a balance of elegance and simplicity, charm and calmness. Upon entering, the striking foyer introduces a textured spiral staircase that disrupts the surrounding rectilinear forms, setting the tone for the home. Moving through to the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas, subtle shifts in materials and finishes define distinct zones, maintaining the grandeur of the space while creating a more intimate, human scale.

The kitchen’s meticulously detailed joinery showcases the complexity behind the minimalist aesthetic, with functional spaces like the butler’s pantry, laundry, and gym discreetly tucked away. Visitors are instead drawn to the sunken 'cosy room', a welcoming retreat within the expansive layout. Studio 11:11 played with architectural elements, integrating them into the interior through dynamic forms and intersecting volumes. Rock walls from the exterior extend into select indoor spaces, seamlessly blending the interior and exterior environments.

The client’s personal involvement in selecting materials ensured a deep connection to the final result. The ground floor features rock walls, travertine stone, polished render, and exposed concrete, unified by a neutral palette that brings calm amidst the textured layers. On the upper level, plush carpet and warm-toned timber replace the harder surfaces, creating a more restful atmosphere. The overall result is a home that harmonizes polished refinement with raw, natural elements, offering an inviting and tranquil space that feels both timeless and grounded.
