Home to landscape design practice Wyer & Co’s creative director Anthony Wyer and his family, the Boulder House sees an unmatched indoor-outdoor experience unfold from a creative collaboration with interior designer Tamsin Johnson and stylist Claire Delmar. This is a Mediterranean-style residence that appears among the existing limestone boulders.
Anthony Wyer, his wife and four children sought a relaxed and inviting home that will age gracefully alongside them. Located on a corner block, the garden envelops the home, featuring Australian native flora such as Tanika, layered with exotic cacti, palm trees and pink Bougainvillea. The home’s indoor and outdoor spaces have been given equal priority, designed to flow together as places to congregate and entertain. Joining forces with Tamsin Johnson, the interior designer has created textural continuity between inside and outside, combining European elements with an eclectic Australian style.
The outdoor stone shelter with its integrated lounge seat is the centrepiece of the garden. Greenery cascades from the roof, while natural stone tiles frame the entrance. Merged with the large, natural limestone boulder, the tropical cabana has a transporting, cave-like atmosphere. The European outdoor fireplace is flanked by seating under a natural bamboo pergola on the adjacent deck, while an elegant dining area features a terracotta tile bench.
Taking a step inside, Tamsin Johnson has introduced a calming interior scheme. A navy blue Sofa sets a soft and curvaceous tone in the living space, together with the stone circular dining table and upholstered dining chairs. Classic white cabinetry and grey Carrara marble define the kitchen, with mid-century-inspired elements.
Southern European design influences thread their way through Anthony Wyer’s Sydney abode – from outdoors to indoors – to create a unique place for his family to call home. Interior designer Tamsin Johnson has taken the shapes and textures of the landscaped spaces to reflect the same attention to design details inside, creating a fluid relationship between both.
