On a seaside hilltop between tall grass and woods, a rugged curvilinear wall blurs the lines between architecture and landscape, defining public and private spaces for the 8 guest rooms. Hence the name Wandering Walls, a building whose walls "wander" like flowing ribbons. The project is located in a remote area susceptible to strong winter winds, atmospheric sea salt and no access prior to construction. In addition, inexperienced construction workers and a limited project budget prompted the decision to use cast-in-place concrete early in the concept phase because of its weather resistance, ease of transport and on-site storage.

Inspired by the raw beauty of the natural environment, the design concept aims to create a sense of serenity and timelessness through a single architectural element and a minimum of materials; defining the entire building with only curvilinear walls that are both structure and form, interior and Outside, outside and inside all exist at the same time. The building clings to the edge of the local woods, gently curving towards the sea. In addition to providing the necessary shelter from the wind, the woodland also becomes the entry experience. The building has no windows on the windward side, but wall-to-ceiling windows open to expansive mountaintop grasslands and spectacular sunsets over the ocean.

The slab and load-bearing wall structural system displaces the concrete load-bearing walls vertically. Walls enter and exit the three floors independently, determined by room layout, views and the location of wind barriers. At the stairs, curved walls circle each other, revealing the horizon where sky, forest and ocean meet. The walls fly 4.5m from the 2F and 3F floor slabs to form a vertical suspended enclosure, an echo chamber-like place where the rustling sound of the strong sea breeze is amplified. On the first floor, the walls cantilever out from the floor slabs to form courtyards.

The rooftop is a 360-degree infinity pool with sweeping views of the ocean and surrounding mountains. Provides fresh water filtered from ecological ponds on the site without the use of chlorine and other harsh chemicals, where birds are often seen playing.
