Labotory is a design studio based in Seoul, South Korea. Their design philosophy is simple yet focused on realizing the best space through maximum effort. The name “LABOTORY” is a combination of “laboratory” and “story,” symbolizing a space dedicated to experimenting and researching the stories behind brands. The studio specializes in creating brand experiences through spatial and brand identity design.

In a recent master class, Labotory’s founders, Park Kee Min and Jung Jin Ho, shared their design philosophy and showcased their work. Their approach blends Minimalism and Constructivism, incorporating elements like lines, shapes, repetition, geometric structures, and asymmetry into their designs. The class was divided into four parts: philosophy organization, design language, design structure, and design concept, where they discussed how to build spaces that reflect a brand’s identity.

Labotory emphasizes collaboration between designers and constructors to avoid misunderstandings in the construction process. In cases where issues arise, such as during their INC Coffee project, they address conflicts through extensive negotiations. They also discussed the importance of budget alignment with clients, ensuring both design and cost expectations are met. Their design process integrates brand identity through a consistent narrative, ensuring that each space reflects the brand’s story.
