Z_Lab was founded in 2014 by Noh Kyung Rok, Park Jung Hyun, and Lee Sang Muk, and covers areas such as spatial design, architecture, interior design, brand design, and experience design. The studio is committed to creating spaces that reflect personal desires and emotions, focusing on communication through place and space. In their designs, Z_Lab emphasizes locality, content, and experience, using regional characteristics to conceptualize spaces and offer unique experiences for clients.
In the master class, Park Jung Hyun shared Z_Lab’s design philosophy, introduced the background of the studio’s founding and its early projects, and highlighted the importance of regionality and cultural depth in design. He mentioned that design is not just about the space itself but also about extracting and applying brand culture and environmental factors to achieve deep communication and experience between the space and the clients.
Z_Lab’s projects typically take one year to complete, with the first month being the most critical for establishing creative direction and design concepts. After the initial phase, the design team focuses on experience design to ensure the space offers a unique user experience throughout construction and usage. Additionally, Z_Lab prioritizes the integration of brand culture and space functionality, aiming to tell a compelling story with minimal functions.
