To me, clay is a warm medium that can comfort me when I am alone. At first glance, they are naughty and slimy things, but when you touch and beat them with your heart, they can become smooth and unique. .
Mura Atelier is a collaboration between Eugene Murphy and Elnaz Rafati. After meeting at the Chicago School of Architecture, Rafati and Murphy discovered a common interest in historical backgroundism and computational irregularities.
Rafati had been engaged in architectural design before she was interested in pottery. She worked in Biarke Ingels Group and graduated from California Architecture School. She has been looking for a medium that can express her creativity since she was a child, and just in 2020, she found the medium of clay and recognized Eugene Murphy, who was like her, and the two began to create sculptures and vases.
In the process of seeking multidisciplinary practice, Elnaz and Eugene are collaborating to create a ceramic series that will bridge the gap between architecture and ceramics, but the two are not similar.
