Holzweiler Copenhagen

Holzweiler Copenhagen is a minimal space located in Copenhagen, Denmark, designed by Snøhetta. Holzweiler established its first international retail location in Copenhagen, bringing its distinctively Norwegian mentality to new locales. Snøhetta was enlisted to design a new store that would stand out in the bustling shopping district of the Danish capital as a long-time collaborator and design partner.

The 100 square meter boutique serves as a refuge for beautiful design in the middle of the metropolis. The tastefully designed interior captures the renowned creative energy that permeates the Holzweiler design and leisure offering. When entering from the hectic Copenhagen streets, a sense of calm prevails.

The store’s neutral finishes are shown in a small ground-floor area with huge windows that let in plenty of natural light. The interior architecture, which adheres to the conceptual approach “Traces,” is motivated by a profound grasp of the brand’s Norwegian character and a desire to include it into the customer’s experience of this new place through both physical and intangible characteristics.

The concept of “traces” conveys an emotional sense of the brand’s valued past as it moves to a new place, reminiscent of a memory or sensation that endures. Additionally, it enhances the experience of the Holzweiler universe for both current and potential consumers and generates synergy throughout Holzweiler’s increasingly global network.

A sculpture that was created in collaboration with the artist Ingeborg Riseng stands in the middle of the room. Thanks to its distinctive clay surface, it attracts the interest of both guests and bystanders. Timber walls lead one through the store, around the hand-clad clay structure, articulating a circular movement around the items and providing unexpected discoveries along the way.

A curving oak veneer partition wraps around as a backdrop to the whole area. Function and sustainability are the two key considerations when choosing materials. The store’s primary building elements are clay and wood, and the team made an effort to utilize as much of the prior space as they could. As a result, the flooring and ceiling were left exactly as they were.

Another illustration is the design of the bespoke lighting, which was specifically developed with an emphasis on a manufacturing procedure that conserves resources. A brand-new design was created with our partner Ateljé Lyktan in close cooperation with the product design team by employing current tooling capabilities combined with standard items. The lighting solution provides an industrial and contrasting element to the interior to juxtapose the gentle earthiness that predominates the room, guiding the consumer through the Holzweiler experience.
