Sueharu Fukami
First became interested in the horizon, when I was in my early thirties,I was climbing Daiyozaki mountain pass in Mie Prefecture. The view just made my heart tremble. I was deeply moved,It was the feeling I wanted to capture in my work,A feeling of majestic awe .
Fukami was born in a ceramic family in Kyoto in 1950. His father Yoshiichi Fukami experienced a pottery company selling functional pottery for daily use. He has been exposed to clay since he was a child and became famous at the age of 20, becoming one of the best pottery masters in Japan.
Fukami is famous for its non-functional sculptures that are elongated horizontally and vertically. These forms are brand new and fresh to the world of blue and white porcelain. His works are hue of aquamarine and soft green, and the sharp edges and curved lines are reminiscent of the blade of a samurai sword.
In order to stimulate the imagination of the audience, not just to watch, Fukami named his works after poetic names, such as "pure thought" or "a ray of light and a gust of wind" or "visionary mental imagery"-elegant and rich with him The dramatic form complements the name.
