Traudel Stahl Papierkunst
Through my own handmade paper and the way I handle it, my sculptures gain a lightness and transparency that makes the seemingly impossible possible.
Traudel Stahl Papierkunst is a paper artist. She always starts with paper pulp made from cotton, hemp, kozo, asparagus, straw, nettles and other plant fibers, casts pictures, makes sheets of paper, and then creates objects out of the sheets or works with a slightly thicker pulp on the surface.Traudel Stahl Papierkunst usually creates three-dimensional sculptures in a standing or hanging position. They look either compact or transparent, delicate and light.
Traudel Stahl Papierkunst utilizes a special process and a high degree of sensitivity to transform paper into works of art that are delicate, wafer-thin and inspiring, yet at the same time amazingly stable. These light-as-air pieces are often combined with metal, stone and other solid materials. This contrasts with the otherwise fast-moving paper and perfectly complements the entire work.
For Traudel Stahl Papierkunst, it was an exciting challenge to create light, breathable, translucent, hollow objects out of the fascinating material of paper, and to highlight their delicate parts with LED light, thus creating unique, personally illuminated objects. On the other hand, Traudel Stahl Papierkunst is fascinated by the exploration of three-dimensional space. The sculptures are created from enclosed air, with small holes surrounded by papier-mâché, light and hollow, translucent, transparent, almost as if the object wants to dissolve. The shapes made of paper turn the impossible into the possible and also combine different plant fibers of paper.
