McLaren Excell

McLaren Excell, founded by Luke McLaren and Rob Excell in 2010, is a serially decorated and award winning architecture and interior practice. Adopting a style rich in materiality, which pushes the boundaries and seeks to create calm and liveable spaces through natural, raw materials, sustainable build practices and elevated design techniques, the studio is based in London and operates throughout the UK and Rest of World. Some 14 members of the team work on both residential and commercial projects, from listed Tithe barns in the English countryside to award winning store designs in LA, USA. Since founding, the studio has won nearly 15 awards for its work in architecture and interior design. Most notably being ‘Architect of the Year’ in 2022 at the British Home Awards.

As co-director of McLaren Excell, an expert in construction detailing, Luke has overseen award-winning projects, including the Arts & Crafts Brick Barns in the Chiltern Hills and Hunts Green Barn, which won Architect of the Year and Home Transformation of the Year at the British Home Awards in 2022.

As co-director of McLaren Excell, Rob studied Interior Architecture at Kingston University and specialises in the remodelling and reuse of existing buildings and spaces. Over the last decade, he has overseen award-winning residential refurbishments in the UK, as well as commercial renovations for Samsung in London and SplashLab in LA. Prior to setting up McLaren Excell, Rob worked on premium residential refurbishments at Powell-Tuck Associates and on commercial and office spaces at d-Raw.
