Eleanor Herbosch (1999) is a British-born Belgian multidisciplinary artist manipulating a variety of natural materials, earth above all, to create textural works of art. After graduating with a Ceramic Design degree from London’s Central Saint Martins, she established her practice in a small studio in Antwerp, where she continues to live and work.

Her chosen means of expression are ceramics and painting, both united by a common denominator: earth. Following an intuitive method of work, her meditative pieces are the result of a dialogue between manipulation and materiality that come together to enhance the intrinsic qualities of the clay. Herbosch’s attraction to rituals and tact led her to choose this ancient material as a form of paint that she dehydrates and grinds down to create powdered clay pigment to then be mixed with ink.

Through her creative research, she seeks to offer a visual experience that is pure sensory pleasure while highlighting the delicate interaction between inked elements and natural soil. She explores a variety of patterns and pigments from different geographical locations and realises differing visual effects as both the interplay of light and shadow and the alternation of moments of pause and motion on the canvas surfaces.
