During this trip to Greece, we had the honor to invite Vangelis to give an offline master class. With the theme of “Eternal Cities and Reflections Across Time and Space”, Vangelis combined his years of local design practice with his deep understanding of Greek culture to systematically dismantle the core qualities of ancient Greek architecture through in-depth case studies. According to him, ancient Greek architecture is not just an art of construction, but a complete value system integrating mathematics, theology and cosmology, seeking a deep harmony among people, space and environment through dynamic symmetry, strict proportion and authenticity of materials. Light and shadow are seen as narrative elements with a sense of ritual, while the rhythm of the columns gives life to the building like breathing. This design language, from the sublime order of the temples to the urban hierarchy of the Agora, aims to connect the human with the divine, the individual with the cosmos, embodying the eternal quest for truth, balance, and spirituality of ancient Greek civilization.
Vangelis further elaborates on how this ancient Greek aesthetic system continues to influence the evolution of architecture and design in the West and around the globe, emphasizing that the timelessness of ancient Greek architecture lies not in the imitation of form, but in the understanding and transformation of its inner philosophy. As a living spiritual heritage, it continues to provide an inexhaustible source of inspiration for contemporary creations in search of meaning, order and beauty.
