Matteo Panceti, the chef and patron of Yapa, a new restaurant and bar in milan's historic center, has a rich culinary resume, but has decided to return to his native Italy to open his own gastronomic paradise. Annabell Kutucu worked with Berlin-based design studio Lambs. And.Lions to complete Matteo Panceti's vision for the otherwise compact site.
Matteo Panceti's requirements for space are warmth, privacy, quality and sustainability. Because the original space area is not broad, the style of the space that does not hide shadow is the designer's best choice. In general, the space is like a neutral canvas. Although it is full of shadows, it does not prevent the whole picture from being centered on Matteo Panceti, with the culinary arts as a prominent focus.
All the ingredients used in Yapa, just like those in the kitchen, are high quality, exquisitely processed to show their natural qualities. The natural texture of concrete and lime shows an understanding of touch, and its rough but not vulgar texture has its place, giving the space an austere but not serious atmosphere.
Soft "spotlights" focus on the rough beauty of the original material texture. Dim atmosphere, fuzzy lighting, fully show this kind of introverted and soothing scene. Such a warm and low-key dining environment, will directly hit people's hearts, will be all secular troubles and desires submerged in this light and shadow.
Angular tables and dining chairs are neatly arranged, defining a neat grid that conveys a sense of order and harmony. Everything from the menu, to the seating area, to the flow of people, has been carefully designed. In Lambs. And.Lions' words, Yapa is a gastronomic journey that takes customers to another world, a nomadic journey of experience, memory and taste.
