London-based architecture firm ConForm has unveiled a contemporary retreat in Hampstead, nestled within its natural surroundings. The project aimed to revitalize an existing garden flat plagued by low ceilings, dim interiors, and limited access to the expansive rear garden. The client, familiar with ConForm's work, sought a refined and textured home that seamlessly integrated with the lush garden landscape.

The design concept for the rear extension was inspired by Victorian bay windows, reimagined with a contemporary twist to minimize impact on neighboring properties while preserving the area's architectural character. Sections of the extension, reminiscent of traditional bay windows, were delineated by distinct materials, including concrete, green terrazzo, and textured plaster. Upon entering the home, visitors are greeted with carefully curated views leading towards the south-facing garden, achieved through strategically placed skylights and glazing that capture natural light and glimpses of the surrounding greenery.

ConForm's design expertise is evident throughout the property, with innovative solutions to maximize space and enhance functionality. Visual illusions, such as skylights and clerestory windows, were employed to create the illusion of spaciousness and provide direct views of the garden from previously enclosed areas. The kitchen features sleek light oak cabinetry and a unique framing detail, while the living space boasts precision detailing and material contrasts, anchored by a large trapezoidal skylight that bathes the interior in natural light.

Terzetto exemplifies ConForm's commitment to inventive design solutions, overcoming spatial constraints while maintaining a strong connection to nature. The result is a harmonious blend of texture and natural elements, creating a home that seamlessly integrates with its surroundings while offering modern comfort and functionality.
