Alejandro Rangel Hidalgo, one of Colima's most popular and internationally renowned artists, has lived most of his life in his estate in the small village of Nogueras. Originally built in the early 18th century to make sugar, the estate was acquired by his family in the 1940s and remains a beautiful landmark in the community today.

Espacio Kaab, overlooking a corner of the estate, respects the place and its craft, as well as the craft of the artists who inhabit it. Espacio Kaab's design exists in a dialogue with the estate. The natural setting will immediately fascinate visitors as they enter the hotel, which is marked by dry, arid vegetation, cacti, stones and land that makes one feel as if in a bubble, embracing and contrasting with other colorful plants in the area, creating quiet moments.

The core basic principles guiding the project design are: respect the terrain, adapt to the environment, and live in harmony with the environment. The dialogue between the linear structure and its surroundings forms the core problem of the house. The main concept of the building was to achieve a space with blurred boundaries between inside and outside. In order to make the house an organic volume, the original, natural hues formed the main hues of the project.

The most important thing to consider is retaining walls, which are necessary for the harmony between the building space and the land. Along the route of the house, these marked and memorable axes provide space for contemplation.

In this way, the project references the typical Mexican house: a colonial architectural tradition that benefits from patios. In Espacio Kaab, however, this theme is combined with references to Japanese architecture, integrating beams that move in perfect rhythm through the different volumes of the house, with open Spaces and unique perspectives born from the building's interior.
